Events Roundup: Youth Quidditch, Tastings and Trivia, and a Virtual Fun Run
It’s that time again! What are you going to do this week/weekend/month? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered, as always. Here are the events you need to attend to kick off your summer in style. With that in mind, let’s get started on this week’s Events Roundup.
Tastings and Trivia
Explore all the tasty beverages from the world of Harry Potter at this month’s virtual Tastings and Trivia. Themed drink recipes will be designed by a professional mixologist so you get the best flavors of the wizarding world in your own home. Be sure you have a team of people who know their Potter trivia because prizes for the trivia contest will be given away for those who place first, second, and third. Raffles and costume contests are also on the agenda for the evening, so dress to impress. Players can join the virtual event as single players or as part of a team. Ticket prices are based on the number of people in your party. Study up – Tastings and Trivia starts on July 22 at 4:00 p.m. PDT. More information about tickets and how to play is on the event website.
Youth Quidditch
Muggle sports are officially boring and so last season. Grab a broom and hit the pitch instead! Portsmouth Recreation Department in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, is inviting kids aged seven to 18 to try their hand at a friendly game of quidditch. Games will be held every Wednesday from July 7 to August 11. Age brackets are in place, so kids of similar ages will be playing together. If you don’t know all the rules, don’t fret – there’s a demonstration day on July 6 at 6:00 p.m. ET. The demo day and all games after will be held at Glen Park in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. For more information and game times, check out the event page online.
Longview Symphony Organizes Harry Potter Activities
Longview, Texas, is getting a bit of a magical makeover this month. Longview Symphony is partnering with several local community groups and businesses to bring everyone some Harry Potter love. Select days through August 14 are full of scheduled activities for kids and families to attend. Included on the list of activities is a special screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at Heritage Plaza, a Harry Potter–themed night during Longview’s ArtWalk, trivia challenges hosted by Oil Horse Brewing Co., and a myriad of crafts, games, and magical activities at LongviewWOW. The string of events will conclude with the Longview Symphony Orchestra’s The Magic of Harry Potter concert on August 14. For specific dates, times, and locations of each activity, check out the event page online.
Harry’s Birthday Virtual Run Celebration
It’s best to start training early for anything longer than a walk around the block. Whether you’re a health nut or you just like spending time outdoors, a long run is a good way to spend Harry’s birthday. Sign-ups are now open for several virtual runs. Take your pick from the one-mile, 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and full marathon runs. The best part is you can do it on your own time and attend no matter where you are. Your run starts on July 31, and participants will have until August 31 to complete the distance of their choosing. Registration is $25, and the price includes the completion medal, a bib, and the cost of shipping. More information on registration and how to participate are on the event page online. Start running!
