Events Roundup: Summer Con, Wizard Art Camp, and Wizarding World Social Classes
Since summer is calling our names, we thought we’d provide some activities to not only help you beat the heat but also get your inner wizard excited for the season. With that in mind, let’s get started on this week’s Events Roundup.
Wizard Art Camp
Paint by numbers is so old school. Pinot’s Palette in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, puts a new twist on the concept. Over the course of four days, those in attendance will have a guided art class and will walk out with a completed canvas of the most famous scenes from Harry Potter. Classes start on Tuesday, July 20 and will continue until Friday, July 23. Classes start at 1:30 p.m. PDT every day and continue until 4:30 p.m. Each class is $45 per student, and all art supplies are included. Each day covers a new picture, and students can try a range of styles throughout the week. Registration is open for Thursday and Friday. More information can be found on the event page online.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Violations of International Humanitarian Law
Have you ever evaluated the humanitarian laws within the wizarding world? In case you haven’t, you may be interested to watch a webinar on that very subject. What are the laws surrounding something like the Cruciatus Curse or the creation of Horcruxes? The Zoom lecture Harry Potter and the Deathly Violations of International Humanitarian Law takes a deep dive into the social issues plaguing the wizarding world as seen in the Harry Potter series. Registration for the webinar is free, but a sign-up is required. The Zoom starts on July 30 at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
Hogwarts Acceptance Letter Experience
We know one of the hardest parts about reading through the Harry Potter series is expecting your Hogwarts acceptance letter when you turn 11 and not getting anything. But kids these days have it easy. The Fairview Community Theater in Fairview, Tennessee, is creating magical experiences for local kids. Families can purchase tickets for $25 to have theater actors dressed in costumes come to deliver Hogwarts acceptance letters to kids. Letters will go out on Saturday, July 31 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Letter tickets can be purchased online for local kids. More information can be found on the event page online.
Washington State Summer Con
Calling all local Washington residents! If you missed the first two parts of Summer Con, there is another chance to attend the event. Notable guests include Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley throughout the Harry Potter series) and Ron Perlman (Gnarlak the goblin from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Washington Summer Con will be held at the Washington State Fair and Events Center in Puyallup, Washington. Tickets are currently on sale for August 7 and 8 for $18 a day. Children’s tickets start at $6 for separate day admission. Photo package opportunities will also be available to guests. More information can be found on the event page online.
That’s all we have for you this week! Check back later for more events in your area. If you’re hosting an upcoming magical event, you can submit it to be included in a future Events Roundup by sending all relevant information to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com.
