“Cursed Child” Melbourne: COVID-19 Cancelations and Year 3 Cast Portraits
Performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Melbourne restarted in February after 49 weeks of hiatus due to COVID-19, but the reopening hasn’t been an easy ride for its cast, crew, and audiences.
Performances were temporarily suspended at the end of May, and then when the lockdown was extended, even more performances were canceled. The play reopened on June 26 at 50% capacity, before a circuit breaker lockdown was announced on July 15.
The latest update came three days ago on the play’s official Instagram page.
Following the latest announcement from the Victorian Government, performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be cancelled from Wednesday 21 July up to and including Sunday 25 July. Affected ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase via email and SMS.
We thank you again for your patience at this time and please keep an eye out for further updates.
It’s another blow for the hopefuls who had tickets because when the circuit breaker was initially announced on July 15, only performances up to and including Sunday, July 18, were canceled, “pending further communication from the Government.”
The news of the temporary closure comes not long after new Year 3 cast portraits were revealed for the new cast members who joined the play in April.
Ben Walter, who was cast as the son of the Boy Who Lived, Albus Potter, is looking very serious in his fresh Hogwarts robes.

Finally, Gillian Cosgriff is pictured as Delphini Diggory. While she isn’t a new member of the cast, Cosgriff explained that “It’s extremely exciting for me because this is the first time Delphi gets to have her portrait taken.” Delphi is rocking her blue-streaked hair in a casual jacket, top, and ripped jeans.
