Fan Focus: Elise – September 29, 2021
Welcome to the latest Fan Focus, where MuggleNet will introduce and highlight a Wizarding World fan. As a Ravenclaw does, Elise from Michigan likes to research various Harry Potter and Wizarding World topics.
How did you become a Wizarding World fan?
I saw a set of the [Harry Potter] books in my local library’s book nook for $30. I had heard of them [before] but never read them but wanted them, so my mom dug change out of her purse to get them for me. I read the first book at age 12, Sorted myself [to find out what Hogwarts House I was in], and [I] was halfway through the second book when life sidetracked me. They’d been sitting on my shelf until November/December [of] 2020 during quarantine when I picked them all up, vowing to read them all straight through, and I fell in love. I owned the movies but made sure to read the books first.
If you could have one prop from the set of Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, what would it be?
A full set of the Quidditch balls used in [Harry Potter and the] Sorcerers Stone when Oliver Wood shows Harry how to play Quidditch. The case, Quaffle, two Bludgers and chains, and the opening door with the Golden Snitch.
What is your favorite Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts memory?
My favorite memory of Harry Potter was receiving the email that told me that my article writing would be featured on [the] Wizarding World website due to my access of being a [G]old [M]ember for Pick Up Your Quill. I felt like someone actually cared about my love for Harry Potter, and it validated the career I’ve always wanted someday to know that some of my writing will be published. I can’t wait to see it in print on the website.
Have you been to the Wizarding World? If yes, what is your favorite memory? If not, what would you want to do first if you could go there?
No, I haven’t been there, but I plan on going in [the] summer [of] 2022 after I graduate for a family vacation. The first thing I’d like to do would be one of the only things I’ve heard of – entering Ollivander’s and being chosen by a wand. I [wouldn’t] know much of what goes on there until I do further extensive research.
If you could spend a day with a character from Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, who would it be and why?
Garrick Ollivander. I feel it would be very interesting to learn about wand lore [and] how he remembers every wand he’s ever sold. [To] ask him how he does it and how he decides which wands out of his stacks to try for certain people, the process of creating a wand besides just collecting the core, how to insert it into the wood, what woods and cores go best together, how he decides the lengths, how he knows if someday it will be chosen or not, and how interesting it is when it’s chosen tons of years later by an excited 11-year-old.
What is your favorite quote from the Wizarding World?
“It is the quality of one’s convictions that determine success, not the number of followers.” – Remus John Lupin
