Events Roundup: Comic Conventions, Cooking Classes, and Wizard Weekends
Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to wonderful Harry Potter events we go. There’s always plenty of activities to go around for the well-versed Potter fan. With that in mind, let’s get started on this week’s Events Roundup.
Matthew Lewis at Calgary Expo
Matthew Lewis (who played Neville Longbottom) will make an appearance at this year’s Calgary Expo in Alberta, Canada. Among many other celebrities who are planned to make appearances, Lewis will be available for photo sessions on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12. To cap off the weekend, expo guests will have the opportunity to attend a Q&A session with Matthew Lewis on Sunday, September 12. Calgary Expo will be going on from Friday, September 10 to Sunday, September 12. Tickets to attend start at $40 for a single-day pass. More information about the expo can be found on the event website.
Adopt a Magical Creature
Magical creatures aren’t just pixies or Nifflers. Our own furry friends can be just as magical to us. If you’re in the Summerland area of British Columbia, Canada, this weekend, you can pick up your own creature. The Critteraid Animal Sanctuary is hosting a Potter-themed adoption event to celebrate Back to Hogwarts. On Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12, pet parents can bring home the newest members of their families. Appointments are required. More information about times and adoption requirements can be found on the event website.
Wizard Weekends at John Ball Zoo
Wizard-themed weekends are returning to John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as summer winds down. Guests can “go to the realms, hollows, and platforms throughout the magical grounds” around the zoo. Costumes are very much encouraged. Wizard weekends will be on September 11, 12, 18, and 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT. For more information, check out the zoo website.
Buffalo Wizard Fest
There’s another Potter party headed your way. Wizard Fest will be at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York, on September 26 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. Guests will be sorted into their Houses before the festivities. Then the real party starts. Vendors and entertainment will also be at Mohawk Place. Wizard Fest is reserved for guests 18 years of age or older, and ID is required upon entry. Tickets are on sale now for $15 per person. Check out the event website for more information.
Frogwarts Feast Cooking Class
Learn to make the most delicious dishes any wizard can whip up with a wand. FrogLegs in Seattle, Washington, has opened up for cooking classes for kids aged 7 to 12, accompanied by an adult. Learn to make Slytherin pasta, owl cupcakes, and butterbeer floats. Classes are $130 per child-and-adult pair, and these dishes will be taught on September 26, starting at 4:30 p.m. PDT. The class is limited to ten students, so you’ll want to save a spot sooner rather than later.
That’s all we have for this week’s Events Roundup. Check back for more of what’s going on in your area. Let us know how things went if you attended some of this week’s events!
If you’re hosting an upcoming magical event, you can submit it to be included in a future Events Roundup by sending all relevant information to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com.
