That Funny Feeling
to the tune of “That Funny Feeling” from Bo Burnham: Inside
You know that funny feeling, don’t you?
If you’re here, you must be familiar with the genius Bo Burnham. His latest Netflix special stopped us all in our tracks as it hit home in ways that no other quarantine feature could dream of. Sometimes funny, sometimes melancholy, and always smart, these vignettes and songs gave validation to many of us who felt the strange disassociation that came with staying indoors with not much to do but contemplate both the light and the heavy all around us. If “derealization” wasn’t in your vocabulary before, it certainly is now.
We’re such big fans of Mr. Burnham that we’re following up our first parody of one of his earworms with a sequel, albeit a bit more subdued this time around. To celebrate the recent Emmy wins and Grammy nominations for Bo Burnham: Inside, here is the Harry Potter-style version of “That Funny Feeling.”
They said that every child in our world would know his name
The Boy Who Lived now come to die, a child soldier all the same
No safer place than Hogwarts, a security nightmare
The safest place he’d ever been was underneath those stairs
There it is again
That funny feeling
That funny feeling
There it is again
That funny feeling
That funny feeling
The pain is real inside our heads, that’s how we know we’re sane
The Prisoner was in Azkaban longer than he knew James
Trust placed in a rat, all those full moons without a pack
Forgotten Christmas present, blank reflection, fade to Black
Dwelling on your deep desires makes you waste away
Gaslighting traumatized kids for political gain
The Longbottoms, McKinnons, Teddy’s parents, kill the spare
See the Hogwarts Thestrals, know exactly why they’re there
There it is again
That funny feeling
That funny feeling
There it is again
That funny feeling
That funny feeling
A prison poisoning your mind, a Patronus changing form
The family that he left behind, Ariana, Aberforth
Experimental goat charms, a call to arms, giving up
The snake, the book, the ring, the crown, the locket, and the cup
Dumbledore’s manipulation, I open at the close
Raised for slaughter in isolation, and all the time he knows
A jokester laughs his last laugh, a green flash, Phoenix song
Spend a year hunting what’s inside you all along
There it is again
That funny feeling
That funny feeling
There it is again
That funny feeling
That funny feeling
