Daniel Radcliffe Saves Superfan by Revealing His Celebrity Crushes, Intends to Direct a Movie He Wrote
Tragically, some child actors go through rough times. They start their careers young and have unconventional childhoods, growing up in the industry. They may lose relevance and potentially fall on hard times. Thankfully, as Harry Potter fans, we can proudly proclaim that most of the cast members in the Potter films all managed to grow up to become well-adjusted adults.
Being the titular character, Daniel Radcliffe received almost all the attention and was likely at the most risk of facing adversity, but thankfully, he’s grown up to become a seemingly down-to-earth actor with a very prolific career. Last month, Daniel appeared on a radio show where he once again proved that he’s an affable, empathetic person when he saved a fan from certain punishments.
Appearing on Capital Breakfast, a morning radio show in the United Kingdom, Daniel promoted his most recent flick, The Lost City, wherein he plays the eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax, one of his few villain roles. When asked whether he enjoys playing the bad guy, Daniel expressed how much he loved it.
It’s great. I mean, you have no responsibility to be likable or to be relatable to the audience in any way. You get to go in and just play a maniac. And especially this guy is a particularly fun villain because all of his villainy is motivated by very pathetic desires, like he’s desperate for Sandra [Bullock’s character] to think he’s cool even as he’s kidnapping her. He’s desperate for his dad’s approval. There’s a lot in there.
Considering Daniel’s recent turn as an antagonist, the radio show decided to play a game to determine if he’s “Daniel Badcliffe,” wherein he was asked three uncomfortable questions and if he didn’t answer, a superfan, named Elena, had to suffer through a punishment. The first question asked Daniel about his most wasteful extravagant purchase and how much was spent. Though Daniel admitted that it was likely art, he wasn’t comfortable revealing the price, for which Elena was forced to smell one of the show employee’s post-workout armpits.
Following that punishment, Daniel was asked to name three celebrity crushes, to which he evoked Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore. The hosts were unsatisfied with his answer because they’re not the most current celebrities. Pressed for time, Daniel named Juno Temple, his costar in the movie Horns. Lastly, Daniel was asked to rank Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and Brad Pitt, his costars from The Lost City, based on talent. To save Elena from facing a tarantula, Daniel named Bullock as the most talented, followed closely by Tatum, and then jokingly listed Pitt last because he didn’t have the opportunity to meet him.

Daniel continued his The Lost City promotional tour by appearing on The Empire Film Podcast, where he revealed that he’s written a script that he hopes to direct in two years. Citing the common writing advice to “write what you know,” Daniel recognized that because he’s lived such an unconventional life, he felt that a script about life in the film industry wouldn’t be relatable, but he confirmed that he wrote something adjacent to the film industry.
I’ve got an idea for something that I have written. I’m hopefully going to direct. It will be in a couple of years’ time, because the next 18 months at least are pretty much accounted for already. People always say, ‘Write what you know’. I’ve had a very unrelatable life, so I don’t want to write that. But I have found a way of writing something that is kind of connected to the film industry, about that.
Daniel later confirmed that should he direct this movie, he wouldn’t act in it, citing a desire to concentrate only on directing. Also, as a director, you are very involved in the editing process, which usually comprises rewatching the movie multiple times. Daniel joked that he’d rather not have to see himself that many times.
