IQA Continues Changes to Board of Trustees
In February, the International Quidditch Association (IQA) found new members for its board of trustees. In late March, the IQA began looking for even more trustees.
The board of trustees is responsible for managing the IQA as an organization. This includes hiring, evaluating, and managing the volunteer staff. The board makes all the important decisions about the future of the IQA and Muggle quidditch. In March, the board had ten members, but now it only has six.
On February 19, Alberto Coronado, Pauline Raes, and Rahel Liviero left the board when their terms as trustees ended. Alberto is from the United States, and the IQA noted that he was very helpful to the IQA’s efforts to become tax-exempt in the United States as a 501(c)3 organization. Pauline Raes, from Belgium, was co-secretary, organizing the board and preparing documents for the meetings of the board and the Annual General Meeting. She will continue volunteering for the IQA as Events & Membership Services Director. Rahel is from Switzerland and was involved as chair of the board.
After they left, the board elected Chris Lau from Hong Kong as chair and Luke Derrick as secretary. Luke Derrick is the newest member of the board, having joined on March 5. Borja Arbosa continues as treasurer.
Soon after those trustees were announced, the IQA started looking for more new trustees. As in previous application processes, the applicants had to include a résumé and cover letter and provide optional letters of recommendation. After that, interviews were held with the candidates in April. Around April 20, the selection committee shared its evaluations with representatives from the IQA’s national governing bodies (NGBs). On April 30, there should have been a special assembly meeting in which the NGB representatives would elect the new trustees.
It isn’t clear if that happened, however, because the IQA has yet to announce any new members of the board, and nobody has been added to the existing list. The other current members are Alex Benepe (ex-officio), Kym Couch, and Italia Valera.
