“Harry Potter” Mobile Games Reach a Major Milestone, “Puzzles & Spells” Gets a Seasonal Update
Harry Potter video games have a major milestone to celebrate. The four mobile games that use the Potter IP have accumulated a collective $1 billion in consumer spending, according to Sensor Tower.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is the highest-grossing game associated with the IP, having accumulated $401 million. Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is shortly behind with $358 million, followed by Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells with $218 million. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which was shut down earlier this year, earned $40 million.
In the rankings of game titles based on books, Potter sweeps the top of the charts for the first three quarters of 2022. Magic Awakened reigns supreme at No. 1, with Puzzles & Spells at No. 2 and Hogwarts Mystery at No. 3.
Magic Awakened was ranked 31st in revenue-generating mobile titles based on IP between January 1 and September 30. The game is only available in select markets in China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan right now, which makes its success even more significant. A global release for Magic Awakened is expected later this year and will be available on PC and mobile iOS and Android devices.
But there’s even more exciting news in the world of Potter video games. In honor of the spookiest season of the year, Puzzles & Spells will feature Halloween at Hogwarts, a special Puzzle Pass season that will include the Gryffindor House ghost Nearly Headless Nick.
The seasonal update will allow players to earn collectible rewards, unlock the Thestral, and collect themed downloadable backgrounds. Halloween at Hogwarts is live now and will continue through October 30.
