Open Casting Call Posted for “Harry Potter” TV Show

There’s one question we’ve all wanted to know the answer to since the announcement of HBO’s Harry Potter TV show: Who will take on the roles of the young witches and wizards at Hogwarts? It seems that today, we’re moving toward an answer.

Cast It Talent posted an open casting call for a project simply titled Harry Potter. The casting call is open to children in the United Kingdom and Ireland between the ages of 9 and 11 as of April 2025. The call specifies that no regard will be paid to any basis protected by law, including race, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, sex, or gender identity.

So far, the only roles open for auditions on the site are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. The call doesn’t make it clear whether other roles will be cast with open auditions too or if they’ll be kept closed instead.

The call asks for two separate sections per audition. The first must be a reading of a short story or poem, taking no longer than 30 seconds. The story must not be part of the wizarding world but can be anything else, from your favorite book to a monologue from a play, or even something original. The second video can run for a minute and must include a small biography and a description of someone you are especially close to, whether it’s a family member, a friend, or even a pet. The auditions must be self-taped according to the rules set out on the Cast It Talent website.

The call gives very little away about the show itself, calling it “an upcoming HBO Original series adaptation of ‘Harry Potter.’” However, the call does say that the show will be filmed in the UK between 2025 and 2026, which matches the 2026 premiere date set out by Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav in February. This news is the first we’ve heard from the show since Francesca Gardiner was announced as the show’s writer back in June.

If you think you know someone up to the task of walking through the doors of Hogwarts, the last date to submit audition tapes is October 31, 2024. The Cast It Talent website is the only approved way to apply for the roles, so don’t try to go through any other channel.
