“Hogwarts Legacy” Sequel Is One of Warner Bros. Discovery’s “Biggest Priorities”

The Harry Potter–inspired video game Hogwarts Legacy was released in February 2023, and there is already talk of a sequel for the chart-topping game.

Selling over 22 million copies of the game in 2023, and selling more physical copies than any other game in the United Kingdom last year, Hogwarts Legacy has created a legacy of its own by impressing its players, who racked up 707 million hours playing the game in 2023.

The game’s success has led to talks of a sequel, which Warner Bros. Discovery’s chief financial officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels, discussed during an interview at Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference.

Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad spoke in an interview with Variety about the game’s success.

It’s not just the units sold that I’m so proud of; it’s just that it delighted the fans so much. It brought ‘Harry Potter’ to life in a new way for gamers where they could be themselves in this world, in this story.

Haddad also discussed how many fans have gone back and replayed the game as a character in a different Hogwarts House, which allows them to experience different storylines being played out.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet and it’s still likely years down the line, this is exciting news for Hogwarts Legacy players. But can a sequel top the magnificence of Hogwarts Legacy? How do you feel about this news, and what would you love to see in a sequel?
