Eddie Redmayne Thinks Fans Have Seen the Last of Newt Scamander – Except at Epic Universe

It’s no secret that, despite the success of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the future of the overall franchise has been a bit embattled. While the series was meant to consist of five films, it now appears that there will not be more than the current three. Last year, director David Yates spoke about the series being “parked.”

Now, in an interview with ComicBook.com about the new Peacock series Day of the Jackal, Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne spoke about the future of the franchise. When asked whether fans have seen the last of Newt Scamander, Redmayne replied, “I think they probably have, yeah. That was a very frank [answer], but yeah, as far as I know.”

It’s little wonder, considering audiences have become somewhat disenchanted with the series as a whole. While the first film opened to general acclaim, the following two installments did not fare as well. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third film, garnered better reviews than the second, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but it still made only about half of the total box office earnings of the original. And there’s been no shortage of controversy over the films, from the recasting of major characters to undeniably and increasingly confused storylines. 

For those still captivated by the protagonist’s offbeat charm, however, there’s no need to say goodbye to Newt completely. Redmayne went on to effectively confirm that fans will be able to catch the Magizoologist at Epic Universe. “I think he may come back in a glimpse in the Universal world in Florida that they’re opening up, in which you may catch a glimpse of what he was up to in Paris,”  he told the outlet. The new park is set to open in May of 2025.
