Stephen Fry Receives Knighthood; Warwick Davis Awarded BAFTA Fellowship
Both Stephen Fry, who narrated the UK versions of the Harry Potter audiobooks, and Warwick Davis, who played Professor Flitwick and Griphook in the Harry Potter films, have started off 2025 with a bang.
At the end of each year, the sovereign of the UK announces their New Year’s Honours List. Each person on the list receives an award, whether it be an OBE, an MBE, or any other title that the king or queen can give. Stephen Fry made the list for 2025, being awarded a knighthood, which means from now on, he will be honored with the title of Sir Stephen Fry.
This title comes as a result of his dedication to working with mental health charities and bringing awareness to environmental issues. Fry follows a host of Wizarding World alums, including the late Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Imelda Staunton, to receive this honor.
Meanwhile, Warwick Davis is set to be honored with the BAFTA Fellowship at the BAFTA Film Awards, which will take place on Sunday, January 16. The fellowship is among the most coveted awards of the night and honors those who have made legendary contributions to the UK’s film and TV industry.
Davis said his being honored with the fellowship “embodies the spirit of inclusivity, creativity, and collaboration that Bafta stands for.” He also looked to the future, hoping that he could “inspire the next generation of storytellers to dream big” and promising that he would continue to advocate for “fresh perspectives” and “better representation.”
I accept this Fellowship in honour of everyone living with dwarfism or any form of difference, reminding us that our uniqueness can be our greatest asset.
Congratulations to both Sir Stephen Fry and Warwick Davis for these very special recognitions of their work and continued dedication to important causes!
