Collaboration Announced Between “Harry Potter” and “Detective Conan”

The Harry Potter franchise has inspired art and content in many ways as a global phenomenon. After a Japanese translation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was rereleased with anime-inspired covers in 2022, it was only a matter of time before more of the popular animation style made its way to the Wizarding World.

A team-up between Harry Potter and the Detective Conan franchise was recently announced, complete with collaboration posters that perfectly encapsulate the mashup between the two worlds. Not much else has been revealed, but the official Potter Japanese fan account on X has announced a fan art event. Significantly, the creator of Detective Conan, Gosho Aoyama, will help to judge the artwork submitted. Three winners will have their work posted to the fan account and the Weekly Shonen Sunday editorial department social media accounts, as well as receive two tickets to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Ten participation prizes will also be awarded.

The franchises have more in common than entire countries full of ravenous fans. Detective Conan, which is also known in the English-speaking world as Case Closed, follows a bespectacled protagonist, Shinichi Kudo, a teenage detective whose body was turned into an elementary school-aged child while investigating a mysterious organization. Much of the series sees the sleuth using his new appearance to his advantage in pursuing cases. Aside from also requiring glasses, we can certainly recall a few times Harry Potter used extensive impersonation to solve mysteries.
