“Wizarding Camp for Grown-Ups” this weekend at Whimsic Alley
If you ever wanted to feel like Harry Potter, but thought you were too old – think again!
Stan Goldin, the owner and creator of Whimsic Alley, has seen it time and time again when parents would bring their kids into his Los Angeles store on Wilshire Boulevard’s famed Miracle Mile. While the kids are there attending a fantasy-themed party or shopping for magic and wizading items in the store (that he boasts is the largest source of Harry Potter merchandise in the world) he often hears adults say how they would like to enjoy a little wizarding fantasy themselves. So, he created the first annual three-day “Wizarding Camp for (so called) Grown-ups,” February 17-19, based on his popular “Summer Camp for Aspiring Wizards” for younger Harry Potter fans, that usually sells out each year.
“Adult” Harry Potter fans from throughout the country will be attending the event. “We just barely announced our plans for the Wizarding Camp for (so called) Grown-Ups and we’ve almost sold out already,” says Goldin. “There’s obviously a need for adults to have a little fantasy and fun in their lives and be like a kid again…at least for three days.”
Each day of the event will be full of fun and creative games. Activities include a Wizard Rock concert at the famous El Rey theater (across the street from the store), a Welcome Feast and Sorting Ceremony, House Challenges, a character look-a-like breakfast, Divination, Marauders Map Challenge, Quidditch, a Tri-Wiz Tournament, the Yule Ball, and many other activities, including a Graduation Feast. For those 21 and older, there is even a pub-crawl on an English-style double-decker bus, one night.
