Yesterday, J.K. Rowling made an appearance at the Sheldonian Theatre, in honor of Exeter College’s 700th birthday. The Evening Standard reported that she spoke of writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith for The Cuckoo’s Calling and is said to have taken great pleasure in the book being rejected to begin with. She also spoke of writing male characters and how she got inspiration for doing so.
Berlin International Film Festival headed to a great start today when Ralph Fiennes’s (Voldemort) newest film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, opened the event. The film is set around the life of a hotel concierge, Gustave H. Played by Fiennes, who finds himself in trouble with the police after a series of events involving a son, a one night stand and a painting. Director Wes Anderson commented on the best way to not get an actor to accept a role in a film while Fiennes spoke of a certain refreshing aspect he found while working with Anderson.
Empire Magazine reported that during an interview with Sky Movies, Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) confirmed that he has been contacted about a possible role in the anticipated new addition, Episode VII. WIthout revealing too much, Oldman opened up a bit about his current situation. Would you like to see Gary Oldman in the new Star Wars episode?
What a night it was indeed for two members of the Harry Potter family on Sunday at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards. The Mirror reported that Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) award was presented by none other than John Hurt (Mr. Ollivander). Meanwhile Alfonso Cuarón was able to to add to his already long list of accolades for Gravity.
The first trailer for the upcoming CGI family adventure, based on the popular children’s animated program, is now online. The film contains the voices of several Harry Potter cast members, including Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn), and David Tennant (Barty Crouch, Jr.). After the global phenomenon of the “Harry Potter” series, Daniel Radcliffe has recently starred in a few considerably smaller, though no less exciting, features. Moviefone reports that his next role will be of a similar size; he is set to star in the biopic “Brooklyn Bridge.”
“Kill Your Darlings,” which stars Daniel Radcliffe, has been nominated for a GLAAD Media Award in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category. The film is up against other big features of the last year: “Dallas Buyers Club,” “The Mortal Instruments,” “Philomena,” and “Blue is the Warmest Colour.”
“Prisoner of Azkaban” director Alfonso Cuarón’s winning streak has continued this award season with the top prize given by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) for his sci-fi feature, “Gravity.” The award was presented to him by last year’s winner, Ben Affleck.
Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) has confirmed that his brother Anthony, also an actor, is all set to open a new drama school in their hometown of Leeds. Totally Lit North will follow the success of the Totally Lit College based in London and will open in February.
