MuggleNet Caption Contest Official Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. THIS IS A SKILL-BASED CONTEST. WINNERS WILL BE SELECTED BASED ON JUDGING CRITERIA, NOT BY RANDOM DRAWING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
1. Sponsor
The MuggleNet Caption Contest (“Contest”) is sponsored by MuggleNet.com / Topix Media Lab, LLC. (“Sponsor,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
2. Eligibility
The Contest is open to legal residents of the United States and the District of Columbia who are at least 18 years old at the time of entry, or who are at least 13 years old at the time of entry and have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate.
Entrants under 13 years old are not eligible to enter. By entering, entrants who are between 13 and 17 years old confirm that they have permission from a parent or legal guardian. Sponsor may require proof of parental or guardian permission before confirming a winner or awarding any prize.
Employees, contractors, officers, directors, and immediate family members of Sponsor, as well as anyone involved in administering or judging the Contest, are not eligible to win.
3. Contest Period
The Contest begins on the date and time it is posted on MuggleNet.com and for the period of time advertised on the posting. (“Contest Period”). Entries submitted before or after the Contest Period will not be eligible.
4. How to Enter
To enter, submit an original caption in response to the applicable Contest prompt by following the instructions in the Contest post, webpage, entry form, or other official Contest announcement.
Entries may be accepted through one or more of the following methods, as stated in the applicable Contest announcement:
- Commenting on the designated social media post;
- Submitting through a form on MuggleNet.com;
- Emailing or otherwise submitting through an official method identified by Sponsor.
Limit one entry per person per Contest, unless otherwise stated in the Contest announcement. Multiple entries from the same person may be disqualified at Sponsor’s discretion.
No purchase is necessary to enter. Internet access may be required. Standard data or internet charges may apply.
5. Entry Requirements
Each entry must be original to the entrant and must not infringe upon or violate the rights of any other person or entity.
Entries may not include content that Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, is obscene, hateful, discriminatory, threatening, defamatory, sexually explicit, harassing, unlawful, or otherwise inappropriate for the MuggleNet community.
Entries may not include personal information about another person, private contact information, or material that violates any platform rules or applicable law.
Sponsor reserves the right to remove, hide, disqualify, or refuse any entry for any reason, including entries that do not follow these Official Rules or that Sponsor determines are inconsistent with the spirit of the Contest.
6. Skill-Based Judging
This is a skill-based contest, not a game of chance. Eligible entries will be judged by Sponsor and/or judges selected by Sponsor.
Judging may consider the following criteria:
- Creativity and originality;
- Humor, cleverness, or emotional impact;
- Relevance to the image, prompt, or theme;
- Writing quality and clarity;
- Overall fit with MuggleNet’s tone and community.
The highest-scoring eligible entry, as determined by Sponsor or its judges, may be selected as the winner. Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.
In the event of a tie, Sponsor may use overall creativity as the tie-breaking criterion, or may select the winner through additional review by Sponsor or its judges.
7. Prize
A prize may be awarded at Sponsor’s discretion. Unless otherwise stated in the applicable Contest announcement, any prize will have an approximate retail value of $30 or less.
Sponsor may choose not to award a prize for a particular Contest. If no prize is awarded, the winner may receive recognition on MuggleNet.com, social media, or other MuggleNet channels.
Any prize is non-transferable and may not be redeemed for cash. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or lesser value if the advertised or intended prize becomes unavailable.
Any taxes, fees, or expenses associated with accepting or using a prize are the sole responsibility of the winner or, if the winner is a minor, the winner’s parent or legal guardian.
8. Winner Notification
Potential winners may be notified by email, direct message, reply, or another reasonable method based on how the entry was submitted.
Sponsor may require a potential winner to provide additional information to confirm eligibility, obtain parental or guardian permission if applicable, and arrange prize fulfillment. This may include the winner’s name, mailing address, and/or other information reasonably necessary to provide the prize.
If a potential winner does not respond within 14 days of notification, is found to be ineligible, does not provide required information, or does not comply with these Official Rules, Sponsor may disqualify that potential winner and select another winner based on the judging criteria.
9. Use of Entries
By entering, each entrant grants Sponsor a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide right to display, publish, reproduce, edit for length or formatting, and otherwise use the entry in connection with the Contest, MuggleNet.com, Sponsor’s social media channels, newsletters, promotional materials, and related content.
Entrants retain ownership of their captions, but Sponsor may use submitted entries without additional permission or compensation, except where prohibited by law.
Sponsor may choose to identify the winner or selected entrants by first name, username, display name, city/state, or other limited identifying information, unless prohibited by law.
10. Privacy
Sponsor will collect email addresses and any other submitted contact information only for purposes related to administering the Contest, contacting potential winners, verifying eligibility, and fulfilling any prize.
Sponsor will not sell entrant email addresses or use Contest entry emails for unrelated marketing unless the entrant separately opts in to receive such communications.

11. Publicity
Except where prohibited by law, by accepting recognition or a prize, the winner agrees that Sponsor may use the winner’s name, username, submitted caption, likeness if voluntarily provided, and general location for Contest-related announcements and promotional purposes without additional compensation.
For winners who are minors, Sponsor may require permission from a parent or legal guardian before publishing identifying information or awarding any prize.
12. General Conditions
Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend, modify, or terminate the Contest if fraud, technical failures, platform issues, unauthorized intervention, or any other factor impairs the integrity or proper operation of the Contest.
Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any person who tampers with the entry process, violates these Official Rules, acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or attempts to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest.
Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, deleted, delayed, garbled, inaccessible, or otherwise invalid entries; technical failures; platform outages; internet issues; or errors of any kind.
13. Release and Limitation of Liability
By entering, entrants agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, its owners, employees, contractors, representatives, partners, affiliates, successors, assigns, and any applicable social media platforms from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising out of participation in the Contest or acceptance, use, or misuse of any prize.
14. Social Media Platform Disclaimer
This Contest may be promoted on or hosted through third-party platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, Threads, or other social media platforms.
This Contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram, Facebook, Meta, X, TikTok, Threads, or any other social media platform unless expressly stated otherwise. By entering, entrants release those platforms from any responsibility or liability related to the Contest.
Entrants must comply with all applicable platform terms, rules, and community guidelines.
15. Governing Law
The Contest and these Official Rules are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
