You’ve Found Ravenclaw Tower
The Ravenclaw common room is hidden near the top of Ravenclaw Tower. Its entrance is guarded by a bronze eagle-shaped knocker that poses a riddle rather than asking students for a password. Give a thoughtful answer and the door will open.
Inside is a light, circular room with graceful arched windows, blue-and-bronze decoration and an airy view across the Hogwarts grounds. A domed ceiling painted with stars rises overhead, giving the room the feeling of an observatory as much as a place to relax between lessons.
A white marble statue of Rowena Ravenclaw stands within the room, while staircases lead onward to the house dormitories. It is a fitting home for a house that prizes curiosity, learning and looking at a problem from a different angle.

You will spend a lot of time here over the next seven years. There is plenty to notice if you remember to look up from your books.
The Starry Ceiling
The common room’s domed ceiling is painted with stars, reflecting the celestial design underfoot and making the whole space feel closer to the sky outside the tower windows.
Arched Windows
Tall windows wrap the circular room in light and offer broad views of the Hogwarts grounds. There are worse places to lose track of time while supposedly working on an essay.
Rowena Ravenclaw’s Statue
A white marble statue of the house founder watches over the room. The likeness includes her famous diadem, an object with a much darker history than its elegant appearance suggests.
The Dormitory Stairs
Staircases lead from the common room to the Ravenclaw dormitories. Eventually even the most determined late-night reader has to admit that tomorrow’s homework may be easier after some sleep.

The Grey Lady is Rowena Ravenclaw’s daughter
Ravenclaw’s house ghost is Helena Ravenclaw, daughter of Rowena. Centuries earlier, Helena stole her mother’s diadem and fled, setting in motion a story of jealousy, regret and hidden knowledge that would matter again during Harry Potter’s final year at Hogwarts.
A statue in the room helped point toward a Horcrux
The statue of Rowena Ravenclaw depicts her wearing the celebrated diadem said to enhance the wisdom of its wearer. Seeing that likeness helped Harry confirm what he was searching for before the trail led beyond the common room and toward the diadem’s hiding place.

Plenty of familiar witches and wizards have climbed the tower and faced the eagle’s questions over the centuries.
