Happy Reptile Awareness Day! Let’s take a look at our favorite snakes. Is yours included on this list?
Because “Harry Potter” fans have come to learn that nothing J.K. Rowling writes is by chance, I embarked on this journey to look at the animal emblems of all four Hogwarts Houses. I wanted to find out how previously recorded legends, myths, and other symbolic systems mentioned these animals and how the nature of the animals in traditional symbolism reflected the House values in Rowling’s work. Gryffindor is an obvious connection between the symbol of a lion and bravery. I had to do a little more research when it came to the Ravenclaw eagle and the Hufflepuff badger, but there were interesting findings regarding those two animals and how they connected to their respective houses. For today’s post I’ll be concentrating on Slytherin House and its snake emblem.
Let’s talk Lumos, Slytherins and hedgehog Vines in this week’s MuggleNet social roundup.
Becoming Harry Potter: Slytherin’s heir
Labels. At one point or another we have all either given one to someone or received one. Some labels can be good and encouraging: youngest Seeker in a century, the Chosen-One, the Boy-Who-Lived, etc. Others are not so good and very discouraging: attention seeker, lousy boyfriend, Mudblood, etc….

In this series of posts started last week, Tori and I will be asking, “Would you rather…” and presenting two options along with a list of their pro’s and con’s. Your job: let us know which wins for you and why.
For this post the question is: Would you rather be sorted into Slytherin or Ravenclaw? In order to weigh our options lets look at what we know about each house along with a few pros and cons:
We all know Harry told his son Albus Severus that if it really bothered him, he could tell the Sorting Hat he’d rather be in Gryffindor than Slytherin. The thing is, though, what if Albus was really Sorted into Slytherin?
Professor Snape,
Over the past few weeks, on numerous occasions, I have attempted to make a love potion. I am aware the effects of a love potion are not that of love, only obsession and lust. However, it is one potion I have aspired to perfect for many years but have unfortunately been successful. I am aware that a name you went by was “the half blood prince” and that in a textbook, during your youth, wrote tips and orders next to spells for them to be made easier, which Harry came across. I was hoping you would help me and give me the correct ingredients and instructions for a love potion as I have come across many different instructions.
