If you’re planning to head back to the movies for this year’s Harry Potter anniversary screenings, Regal is adding something appropriately Hogsmeade-ish to the concession stand.
The theater chain’s Butterscotch ICEE will return Aug. 24, just ahead of the Harry Potter films heading back to theaters for celebrations marking 25 years since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone arrived on the big screen.
The drink is essentially Regal’s unofficial answer to a frozen Butterbeer. It starts with a butterscotch ICEE and adds cold foam and a caramel topping, landing squarely in the creamy, caramelized flavor territory we’ve come to associate with the drink.
Regal will offer it at participating theaters, and because it is being sold while supplies last, availability could differ from one location to another. There isn’t currently a publicly announced final day for the promotion.
This is actually an encore for the drink rather than a new creation. Regal introduced the flavor during its 2025 Back to Hogwarts marathon, when all eight Harry Potter movies were playing at the chain. Now it’s getting another run alongside an even bigger milestone for the films.
Twenty-five years after audiences first watched Harry walk into the Great Hall, Sorcerer’s Stone is returning to theaters alongside the rest of the series. Regal listings already show screenings for the movies beginning in late August.
There are worse ways to revisit Hogwarts than on a big screen with something resembling Butterbeer in your hand.
Butterbeer Flavors Are Getting Easier to Find
The Regal drink also arrives during a period when Butterbeer-inspired flavors are showing up around the world. Earlier this year, Cinnabon got in on the action with an official Butterbeer collab.
That makes Regal’s returning ICEE part of a welcome development for those of us who would happily accept Butterbeer becoming a completely normal seasonal flavor. Pumpkin spice has had a very good run. Perhaps butterscotch and cold foam deserve their moment.
