HBO has unveiled the first poster for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, offering our first clear glimpse of the show’s redesigned Hogwarts Castle.

Shared on HBO Max’s official Instagram account, the poster features a close-up of Harry Potter’s face, complete with his round glasses and the new, more natural take on his lightning bolt scar. Reflected in one of the lenses is the sight of Hogwarts, illuminated against a dark sky.

A New Hogwarts for a New Generation

Although the castle is partially obscured by the reflection and the poster’s lighting, its silhouette appears significantly different from the Hogwarts we’ve come to recognize from the Harry Potter films.

Though some had speculated that they would reuse the movie design for the exterior, or a close approximation like that seen in Hogwarts Legacy, HBO appears to have developed an original exterior for the television adaptation, with a different arrangement of towers and architectural features.

It’s difficult to make out every detail at this scale, but this marks our first somewhat clear look at what will become the series’ most recognizable location.

The decision to reimagine Hogwarts is interesting given how closely the castle’s film design has become associated with the franchise over the past 25 years, appearing in everything from theme parks to video games and merchandise. On the other hand, a redesigned Hogwarts could help establish a distinct visual identity for the television production.

Of course, we’ll need a better look before we can fully appreciate the changes.
