Readers are coming back to Hogwarts. With the HBO series set to premiere this Christmas, interest in the original Harry Potter novels has jumped 156% over the past month, as reported by People Magazine. Nearly three decades after “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” first hit shelves in 1997, we’re very happy to report that the magic still hasn’t worn off.

The films are also enjoying a fresh moment in the spotlight. Searches for the eight films have climbed 122% in the last month, per Preply’s findings. Instead of just two hours per book, the new HBO series, with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione, will dedicate a full season to each of the seven books.

Part of what keeps us coming back, according to Cristina Miguelez, is the singular language built into the series. “The invented terms in Harry Potter help create a shared language among fans and give the story a distinct identity,” Miguelez said, also adding that “spells and magical terms sit comfortably alongside everyday British dialogue, making the world feel both familiar and new.”
